Synopsis
Interscape is a 2D dungeon-crawling RPG about a little boy lost in a magical world that puts him up against his demons. Harness the power of his emotions to confront haunting enemies and find a way out before the darkness consumes him.
Why a Playtest Demo?
The development of Interscape is currently ongoing, but we want to have a way to share our current progress on this project and to give you a glimpse of what the game will have to offer. At the same time, we want to hear your ideas on things the game can do better as we develop its final, "official" demo.
We want you to be an active part of its development! Your insights are invaluable in shaping the game.
How to Give Feedback
There are three ways you can help us with that:
- Cool Mode: You can share your opinion on the game in the Comments section below: likes, dislikes, bugs, new ideas, etc.
- Amazing Mode: If you want to step it up a notch, you can help us by filling our anonymous Google Form. Submissions are all anonymous by default.
- Giga Chad Mode: As a dev, we have a special place in our heart for seeing actual people who definitely exist try our game out and enjoy it... Or learn from our mistakes if they hate it! If you're up for it, you can record your own playthrough of the game and share it with us here: prodbyankiano@gmail.com. Note: for security purposes, we will only open Youtube links with the videos; you can set them on private if you don't want anyone else to see yours.
Important: The only rule we have for sharing feedback is respect. We have a lot to learn from what you say, but we will not tolerate any harassment or discrimination on the comments or on any of the other channels.
Existing Features
Some of the main features include:
- Fight your way through unique dungeons using the power of your emotions as your main weapon.
- Understand your enemy: every monster has its own strengths and weaknesses. Discover them, exploit them, and push FORWARD!
- Understand yourself: get stronger by reflecting on your experiences and reate your unique build that will help you navigate your adventure.
- The path you take on your adventure is determined by who you are and how well you understand each of your emotions. This simple demo already offers four unique ways to complete it!
- Meet quirky characters who will help you in your adventure... In their own weird sort of way.
- Controller support on Desktop (Still experimental on Web).
- Complete puzzles and avoid deadly traps.
- Original soundtrack and sound design. Charming(?) art style :)
- (Experimental) Browser build so you can try the game out without downloading anything!
Planned Features
This is what you can expect from the upcoming full demo. These are not currently expected to be updated for this playtest build:
- More content, incl. new enemies with more extensive features and combat styles, epic boss fights, and a proper introduction to the story.
- New and polished art style, complete animations, extended soundtrack, new sound effects.
- Improved performance and navigation. Will have fixed bugs of the current build.
- Better accessibility features, including color blindness settings and better controller support.
- Polished menus, UI, and HUD, with cool animations that make you go "oh wow, this menu is polished!".
- Extended ports: Windows, macOS, and Linux. Web is not currently planned but may be included depending on workload.
On top of that, we plan to include for the full commercial release:
- Up to seven unique dungeons, each with different art style, music, enemies, bosses, and characters.
- Branching narratives and unique endings.
- Localization into multiple languages.
- And much, much more!
We will keep this list updated in case we fall in love with any of your amazing ideas! Credit will be given both in this list as well as in the Credits of the final game.
Our Team
Ankiano is the main creator of Interscape, taking care of the game's coding, design, art, graphics, writing, and sound design, as well as jointly composing and producing the soundtrack with Femo-Lemo. He also takes care of the project's overall direction and manages the game's channels, e.g., this Itch page. Interscape is his third project and the first one aimed for a public release. He sleeps more than he wants and less than he should.
Femo-Lemo is a frequent collaborator and the joint composer of Interscape's soundtrack. He has completed musical studies and can play multiple instruments. He thinks he's a cat but should actually start paying rent at some point.
Development Plan
Our current development schedule:
- Complete final demo: Mid-2025. Exact date to be confirmed.
- Steam page with promotional content: Mid-2025. Exact date to be confirmed.
- Full release: Late 2025 / 2026. Exact date to be confirmed.
The schedule will be updated depending on new feedback and potential contributions (see more below).
Known Bugs and Limitations
If you encounter any bugs that are not listed here, please post a comment with as much information as possible and with the game version you found it in.
[Windows Desktop]
These are generally planned to be addressed in the full demo but may be updated here too, provided there's enough interest.
- Remapping Joystick buttons is currently not possible from the "Joystick Controls" menu.
- Remapping controls do not ensure that user-defined mappings are not conflicting. Please be cautious when doing this and make sure that control bindings are generally unique.
- Keyboard prompts are adapted to the actual layout of your PC, but the button glyphs in UI are limited to the keys in a standard US keyboard, e.g., the user can remap "O" to "Ü" in a German keyboard but the "Ü" glyph will not be shown in UI.
- Some "Mind Cloud" enemies have lighting around them to show they are powering up surrounding enemies. This light often behaves weirdly or may not even show upon reloading or defeating an enemy nearby.
- Mouse interaction is limited in menus and UI.
[Browser]
The game is mainly designed to be run on desktop, and its features have that design in mind. The browser build is provided as a way for players who don't want to download games from Itch to still enjoy the game and provide feedback, but support is limited compared to the desktop version.
Therefore, the web version of the game has the same limitations as the desktop version and a few ones that are unique to it. Here's the ones we found so far:
- The web export is not designed to run on mobile; only desktop web browsers.
- [Firefox] Itch supports one of the engine's required features but it is not fully supported in this browser.
- Brief performance drops the first time you perform some actions like dashing or opening certain menus.
- Controller support on browser is featured but has not been thoroughly tested.
- Audio may crackle sometimes. It is usually not too bothersome.
- Some browser errors are displayed on the developer console but they don't seem to have any effect on gameplay.
We will keep this list updated with any other bugs you find, and we will give credit when applicable. Thank you for your support!
Contributions
The most meaningful way you can contribute to the project at this point is to share your feedback with us (see How to give feedback). This will help us validate the game's idea and design and will give us ideas on things to improve.
We are currently not expecting any sort of donations from you, so payments have been disabled on this page for now.
While we are not currently looking for new team members, we might start doing so in the coming months. Particularly, we would look for help mainly on game art (pixel art sprites, animations, UI) and potentially on writing / design, but everyone who would like to join in in any function is welcome to contact us! If you're interested, please send an email to prodbyankiano@gmail.com with your preferred role and any prior experience.

IMPORTANT - About Desktop Downloads
Some users might get the executable download below mistakenly flagged by their anti-virus software (AV). See the example below (Windows Defender):
This is a known issue in the indie game development community and there is no easy way to circumvent it: AVs will flag anything that comes from new / unknown publishers as unsafe.
Interscape has been built on open-source software exclusively and contains nothing that could be classified as a virus. Nevertheless, we understand if you're concerned about these warnings and would rather not take the risk. If that's the case for you, the browser build of the game will remain available on this page; its performance is limited, but we will keep it updated on par with the desktop version.
For those of you who do want to bypass this to enjoy the desktop version of the game, you can tell your AV to make an exception for this file (e.g., "More info" > "Run Anyway" on Windows Defender) or run the game in a virtual machine.
Thank you for your understanding!

hey! awesome game, its great fun for a work in progress. i like the vibe ur going for. i think it's a little difficult at the end but maybe its just me. ill fill the form with more feedback later:)
Hi scallpon96, thank you so much for the first comment! I'm glad you liked it!
I did want to make the game challenging, but also fair. Let me know what you think after you beat the demo; there's a section in the Google form that's explicitly about difficulty.
Cheers!
